10 Reasons to have a Boudoir Shoot

Over the weekend I was discussing the reasons why every woman should consider having a boudoir shoot with a lady who was uncertain about having one. The gorgeous lady in question was not convinced she was pretty enough or the right dress size and questioned how her photos would look because of this.

 I found this so very sad as the woman I saw in front of me was stunning! Miss A has a beautiful, kind face, porcelain skin, lovely curly hair and boobs and legs I would kill for! Her gauge was firmly in the negative and she could only think of reasons NOT to have a boudoir session done. 

 As I spoke to her, I discussed all the positive reasons for doing so, and I thought I would share some of these reasons with you today.

Here are 10 reasons to definitely have a boudoir shoot:

1. Firstly who wouldn't want to spend a few hours being pampered like a celebrity? Or have their makeup and  hair done professionally whilst sipping on a glass of bubbly or some other favourite bevy? Not to mention all those fancy studio lights, a professional  photographer equipped with advice and poses  to make you look fab, and of course Photoshop (if you so desire) at your disposal.

2. You will look stunning with your kit off, I'm not joking! You don't have to be a size 0 to look good in front of the camera. I photograph women of all shapes, sizes and confidence levels regularly. During your session I help you to focus on the bits you like and know how to hide the bits you don't.

   

 

3. You have a rare opportunity to see yourself differently.  You could be a pin up girl, a femme fatal dripping in sparkly jewels and black lace or the demure sensual girl next door type. Plus planning your outfit is so much fun and a valid reason to go shopping!

You can indulge in your fantasies, ever wanted to be a 50's vixen?

 

4. This leads me on to my next point, it's not always about being naked. You choose how much or as little of yourself you'd like to show. A cute pair of pyjamas or night gown is just as sexy as a slinky barely-there set of lingerie. Sexiness is all about how you feel and I work at a level you are comfortable with to bring out your personality and individual sexiness.

5. You have the chance to surprise yourself and others. No doubt your partner, family and friends will be shocked when you tell them about your experience and utterly gobsmacked (and jealous) when they see how gorgeous and glamorous you look in your photos.

  

6. Don't fool yourself by thinking 'I want to lose weight first' or something along those lines. What if you don't lose the weight, would you really want to rob yourself of a fantastic once in lifetime experience?! Trust me, there is no reason for you to waste your time like that, you are beautiful here and now and I will show you what I mean.

 

7. You don't have to do it alone. If you are nervous and need the moral support of a familiar face, bring a friend we really don't mind, but as this is a girls only studio boyfriends are not allowed.

   

8.  Boudoir photos make a perfect gift for your boyfriend/ husband/ lover/ girlfriend or yourself. Show me one partner  who wouldn't be thrilled, not to mention speechless, to receive a gorgeous set of sexy photos from their lover?

 

9. It's the perfect way to celebrate a life changing moment.  A wedding, pregnancy, the birth of a baby, reaching your goal weight or celebrating the beauty of you here and now, pretty much any occasion that is special to you.

 

10.  And finally, every woman needs to have at least one fantastic photo of themselves. One that makes them smile with pride every time they look at it, and one they can refer to when those old self love issues try to creep back. A boudoir session is designed to boost your confidence and show you that you are every bit as beautiful as the models you see in your beauty magazines. 

 

So there they are my top 10, I have many more but they seemed the most important. Needless to say that these reasons soon convinced my reluctant beauty and we'll be photographing her in the next few weeks.

Madame Boudoir Photography Discovers Vintage

I've not written in a while, hope you have all been misbehaving? If not, shame on you.

On Sunday the 25th September I was up at 5:45am to pack Suzuki Steve my luscious little orange Suzuki Swift to go to my first vintage fair. (Those of you who don't know me - I'm obsessed with all things Orange...but I digress)

As I said, I was up early on Sunday to drive to York for my first vintage fair. I was apprehensive, I wasn't sure what was in store for me and I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a natural sales person and I feel awkward about tooting my flute about my work. 

Whilst I drove to York I thought about how I could attract people to my stall. I could adopt a Delboy style sales pitch and marvel them with my suitcase of tricks, but I didn't have a suitcase, or a cockney accent to pull it off so that was a no. I would just have to rely on being myself and see how it went.

I arrived at 8am at the York Barbican Theatre and was greeted by Keeley Harris, organiser of the fair, a lovely lady who pointed me to my station and so I started to set up my stall.

I had examples of my work scrolling on my laptop I made the slide show in Lightroom it worked really well

I handed out 10% off flyers to people at the event

An hour and a half later I was nearing the end of my set up and 2 ladies arrived at the stand next to mine. I was greeted with warm smiles and they introduced themselves as Bethany and Anna from The Vintage Beauty Parlour, we hit it off right way . I was surprised to learn that they had driven all the way from Manchester, this fair must be good I thought to myself! 

Whilst Bethany and Anna set up and transformed themselves into fabulous 50's bombshells I could see people queuing outside the glass doors of the Barbican Theatre, I got a knot in my stomach again. Bethany and Anna reassured me that it would be busy but good fun.

I've learned that when you start your own small business you have to choose your means of advertising carefully as money can be an issue. 

So when Bethany told me about how beneficial the fair was I relaxed and patted myself on the back, I had chosen my first event wisely. All the stall owners and support staff were friendly and welcoming and looking at the eager public queuing outside, the Discover Vintage Team had worked very hard to attract the masses.

The Discover Vintage Home and Fashion fair was a marvellous day, before I knew it 4pm had arrived and it was time to go home, I can't wait for the next event. I had some really good practice talking to strangers about my work. We helped distribute their others fliers and sold each other's services and I got to take a few pictures of their brilliant work. 

PLUS I got a lot of complements about my stall and about my work which has energised me to continue my business and keep working at it, so an all round success me thinks!

I've recently taken one of the biggest steps in my life and set up my own studio. It's only small but it's mine and I am very proud of it. If I'm really honest I am scared as hell. 


There are the obvious reasons i.e. will it work? will I make money? blah blah blah - BORING! 

But as Charlie Sheen says: 'I am a warlock'. 


I've taken some inspiration and energy from him, for instance, if he can turn a seemingly public firing from CBS, laugh in the face of patronising TV interviewers and turn it into a multi-million dollar tour thus becoming more famous now than he ever was, then...well, why can't I?


I hear your mental dialogue: but Kim you aren't famous, you don't have your own TV show and you don't have millions like he does. Yes, yes minor details - but it's his positive self belief and winning attitude (excuse the obvious pun) that I'm talking about here. 


So I've opened my own studio and have gone professional and whilst it scares me every day to know its all on my shoulders I don't think I could go back to working a 9-5. Every minute of every day I'm pouring myself into my work and doing the best I can and I hope that in the coming months other people will see that too!
